Minogue Hairdressing up for Australian Hair Expo Award for Best Salon Design

It’s an exciting time at the Eastern end of The Commons Casuarina with Minogue Hairdressing in the running for Best Salon Design at the Australian Hair Expo Awards. The Salon at The Commons has only been open for 9 months but they have set their heights high. We recently sat down with talented hairdresser and owner Hayley Kidson (formerly Minogue) to ask her all about how the young, determined Gold Coast girl found herself up for such a prestigious award so soon.

***At the time of our interview Hayley had only entered the competition, she has now been shortlisted as a finalist in the Australian Hair Expo Awards for the Best Salon Design.

So Hayley tell us a little bit about Minogue Hairdressing…..

So Minogue Hairdressing evolved for me in 2010, with the opening of my second salon in 2012, then in 2018, I opened our Casuarina salon. You could say my career has gone from strength to strength since opening Minogue.I take so much pride in my work and do everything to the best of my ability 110% of the time to ensure my clients are always leaving extremely happy!  My week not only consists of creating beautiful hair, I work collectively with both salons to ensure the team is up to date with the latest trends with constant training.

And how is your Casuarina Salon at The Commons different…

I guess when I first came to the Commons, the layout of the shop Minogue instantly attracted me. I love all the open space, the bi-fold windows and the natural light is definitely my favourite part. I’ve never come across another salon like it and I love that it is extremely unique yet has some of the same characteristics of our Reedy Creek salon.

You recently came back from New York Fashion Week where you were part of the hair team tell us about that…

Yes, I have been privileged enough to be a part of New York Fashion Week numerous times now. It’s such an amazing experience to work alongside world-renowned stylists. I love that my career gives me so many travel opportunities. I  have travelled both nationally and internationally as a Guest Artist for Wella, as well as to speak about Minogue and our business model.

And you recently entered some awards, tell us a little bit about them…

I’ve just entered the Casuarina salon in the Hair Expo awards in Sydney for the ‘Best salon design’ category. The brief for the award was to have innovation and originality to the look and the aesthetics of the salon and I think I have definitely achieved that!

You had to submit some materials (photos and videos) to enter, how did you find this process? Who did you use for photos and video?

I worked with Guy  from Capture Collective and Cole from Frankly all by hand. They are both super talented and I was so happy with the way Guy and Cole brought my ideas to life.

If you could share anything with a brand new client right now what would it be…..

I guess the best part about Minogue is we are super passionate about all things hair!! We love making clients feel amazing and bringing their hair dreams alive. As a mother of 3, I consider myself an inspiring mentor to my 15 strong staff and absolutely love every minute of it!! I love driving my team to strive to be the best stylists they can be and find it extremely important to give everyone an equal opportunity to learn more, and love their job!! The girls are all extremely passionate and dedicated to creating beautiful hair. We consider hairdressing a career with endless opportunities meaning we have the ability to learn more and more every day which gives us the ability to pass our love on to our clients.

Thank you for sharing Hayley, we wish you all the very best for the finals! Stay tuned to our Instagram to hear the results.
